BackerKit, development and production updates
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jun 27, 2019 at 09:30:05 PM

Dear Eldritch Friends,

So the pledges are in, and we’ve been well at work getting ourselves prepared for launch.

Our development has been getting on full steam, we’ve recently brought on additional manpower to help us get more assets online, faster. We’re on track to getting our character creator ready for beta testing in mid-to-late July for our 99$ and above pledges.

Here are some races we’re already well underway to adding multiple facial expressions for (even including the adorable, smiling firbolgs! I love them so much.)

We’re also just about done setting up our Backerkit! It’s been sent to review, and <fingers crossed> next week it should be in your emails. The BackerKit store should be open to everyone, and will include a few extra goodies you might like, like a shirt that’ll only be available there, and a sticker pack.

On the production side of things, it’s a bit more complicated. Our original production capacity plan did not account for you guys and your overwhelming support. As it stands now, our backlog is about 20,000 models deep, and that’s without even opening the creator to anyone outside of Kickstarter.

If we use just our current print capacity, we’ll deliver in just shy of six months for our “last in” order. That’s a number we’re not OK with.

That means we’ve been working hard to make sure that when we launch, we are able to deliver. Which means we need to set  up a production line in a whole new order of magnitude. Not impossible, it just takes time to set up properly.

So we’re pushing back our launch date. We’re looking at a September launch, if our ducks line up correctly.

My sincerest apologies for this, but we will only launch if we are confident that we can get your character to you within a month from order, at the worst.

Thank you so much, and feel free to reach out to us  via [email protected]

Warmest regards,

Matan and the Eldritch Foundry Team

PS One last project you might love… Eternal Adversary from Petersen Games!

Millennia ago, a cataclysmic event tore time apart when the agents of Chaos tried to change history and wipe out mankind. Now countless timelines of earth exist, with the different Ancient Empires of man thriving to this day. Chaos has begun the final battle to destroy all of the timelines of Earth.

A single timeline of Earth must remain for humankind. The ancient warrior societies must band together to fight for existence and Chaos must destroy Earth if they are to have a future in this timeline.

...Which side will you choose?

A 2 to 6 player teams game: build up your hero as you play, getting tougher, faster, deadlier. Will you fight for Order or Chaos?

Slow on the draw & The Bits Box
almost 5 years ago – Sat, Jun 08, 2019 at 10:42:06 PM

Last stretch goal unlocked - The Bits Box

We are very happy to announce that we will be making the Bits Box. In essence we will create a dedicated area within our character creator, enabling users to buy just specific bits. This should prove useful for people converting and modding existing miniatures, and for people looking to update their own miniature. Say your war cleric found a flaming sword and stopped wielding their war-hammer. With the Bits Box you'd be able to purchase a replacement hand and sword and update your miniature (ymmv depending on your skill level).

Yes, we have reached this goal - even if the main page says otherwise

Down low... too slow

We cracked the last when everyone was away from technology, and we did not update the main page before the campaign ended. Unfortunately we cannot update the main page until further notice.

Thank you from the Eldritch Foundry!

Our Kickstarter campaign is now over, and it has been a wild ride. We hit almost all our stretch goals, far and above what we could have imagined.

And we owe it all to you.

You were supportive, you gave good, strong feedback, you encouraged us. The biggest thing for us here is the absolute sense of community we've come out of this with. Thank you.

Thank you- to our early backers, our friends and family, thank you to backers who brought in their groups, to those that roped in their local gaming store.

Thank you to retailers who believe in us (big big shout out to Knight Watch Games and Kingdom Geekdom).

A huge thank you to the amazing people over at D4's stream, you're pretty much family at this point. Thank you to Critical Role and all you amazing critters, your immense support has been overwhelming and incredible. Thank you Avantris and 20D20.

Thank you ENWorld for your support, thank you Petersen games and Iron GM games (check out their Kickstarters!). Thank you Oren and Shoof Videos, you did amazing work. Thank you Landon Jameson for your daily breakdown.

Thank you Inbal, for your design work. Thank you Ilya, for the amazing concept art. Thank you Patrick, for the lore we love reading. Thank you to our modelers, who busted their behinds.

I'm sure we're missing people we owe thanks to. If we are, let us know in the comments.

So, what's next?

  • We're hard at work on our character creator, getting it ready for the beta, and shortly after that- for release. We're trying our damnedest to make it ready by the end of June. If we have any delays, we'll communicate that as early as we can.
  • We'll also be sharing updates on development progress via this Kickstarter campaign (as well as our newsletter). So expect occasional updates via email from us. We'd love to hear your feedback!
  • Our Arcane Gate and Dark Temple tier backers, you'll be getting emails from us for additional details on your characters and items, so we can get started on them.
  • Retailers- you also will be getting emails from us- let's get those affiliate programs rolling :)

This is just the beginning. Now we've got a whole bunch of work to make the Eldritch Foundry as awesome as possible.

If you have any questions, thoughts, ideas, stores you'd like us to contact for affiliates, please drop us a line at [email protected] or via the "ask a question" button on our FAQ.

Thank you, with all our <3,

All of us at the Eldritch Foundry

Uud- the campaign setting!
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Jun 04, 2019 at 11:28:24 PM

400,000$ and over 5,000 backers, and we've still got almost 5 days left, this is incredible.

In light of this, I think we can show off some of the amazing lore Patrick Stuart has been writing for us. You can read up on our lore, and all sorts of other stuff Patrick thinks up on his blog. His latest book,  An adventure for Old School D&D (using Chris McDowall's Into The Odd ruleset) can be purchased here (and I couldn't recommend it enough. We've got two copies in the office. Because reasons.)

While we'll be releasing the full campaign setting via World Anvil by the end of June (<fingers crossed>) for anyone and everyone, you, our loyal Kickstarter backers, will receive a PDF version of it, lovely crafted with concept art and more.

For the meanwhile, here are some examples of what we're working on for the PDF. A bit of light reading for four of our races, the Somon, Aeth, Deoth and Vantar.

Next up... Bits Box!

So now we've passed the 400,000$ mark, our next stretch goal is the Bits Box. This feature is meant for those of you who enjoy converting miniatures, and is meant to be system-agnostic. Essentially, if you play, say, Warhammer 40,000, but your Space Marine chapter recruits women, you're straight out of luck if you want female heads to replace your unhelmeted (spelling?) marines.

This is where the bits box comes in. You pick a connector type, a body area (or weapon you fancy in particular), and then generate as many variations of that piece as you want.

Basically, now you can pick "female heads", randomly generate (or make them one by one if you're so inclined) 20 heads, pick what game system they should fit, and presto- you've now ordered a bag of female heads.

In retrospect, that sounds terrifying. But the idea remains ;)

So, go forth, and let's get those bits!

Last week, share, tweet, let your friends know!

Saturday morning marks the end of our 30 days. We've gone through so much, and we can hit those last stretch goals, I know we can.

So if you have a friend who might be interested, make sure to tag him. Post on Facebook, talk about it on Twitter, make some noise. I trust you guys :)

Love,

Mat and the Eldritch Foundry team

PS- Have you seen Grimmerspace?

Grimmerspace: Sci-Fi Horror RPG Setting & Adventures

Please check out our friends at Iron GM Games. Joined by actor Sean Astin, they’re creating the Grimmerspace setting: a Starfinder-compatible science-only galaxy secretly invaded by wizards from the other side of the universe! Their core book is half setting and half adventures, so you’ll learn about Grimmerspace not just by reading, but by actually living there.

In Grimmerspace you’ll explore gritty terrorscapes, battle alien atrocities, and make tough moral choices. The stakes are always high, and the price of heroism cheap.

With 1,350+ backers thus far, their Kickstarter is on track to smash through every stretch goal and grow Grimmerspace into a massive offering!

We *love* what they're doing, and their aesthetic is spot-on. We've even pledged to have the whole shebang in our office (and we're mostly 5e folk here...!). Highly recommended!
